Our History

Dr BelcherIn 1991, the founders of Kaleidoscope recognized that women of various ethnic backgrounds were filling more leadership positions in higher education. They observed that many leadership training programs did not address issues faced by these talented women.

The Kaleidoscope Leadership Institute was formed to give women of color an opportunity to examine themselves in the mirror and discover their wondrous reflection.

Kaleidoscope is founded on the notion that it is essential to understand, honor, and leverage our strengths and uniqueness as part of the “kaleidoscope” of diversity needed for organizational and individual success. We believe that it is important for each member of ethnic and cultural groups to interact with and improve communication with each other in order to amplify the benefits of the diversity to an even greater degree. >>Our Mission and Focus

Hundreds of African American, Asian/Pacific Islander American, Latina/Hispanic, Indian, Native American and other women of color in administrative, staff and faculty roles in higher education as well as other women in other professions have attended our Institute. Each has a story to tell about the impact Kaleidoscope has had in their lives. >> Testimonials

Today, after 25 years, Kaleidoscope remains a highly successful leadership training institute for women of color. Led by Dr. Jacquelyn Belcher, Kaleidoscope continues with the goal to give women of color an opportunity to discover their strengths and leverage the power their diversity brings in a safe supportive environment. >> Dr. Belcher’s Bio
