Our Philosophy
Our philosophy encompasses four elements, each of which describe foundational concepts upon which our work is built.
The 6 Truths
The 6 Truths of Inequity help us find our power to dismantle systemic inequity related to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability and other social locations. This model shows what is at stake when inequity exists and the opportunity when striving towards equity is our way of life.
The Shift
The shift describes the structural nature of inequity through the lens of the 8ps of Change:
- People
- Perception
- Philosophy
- Politics
- Policy
- Procedures
- Process
- Priorities
Each of the Ps are levers to shift from inequity to equity in race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability and other social locations.
The Journey
The impact of racism is pervasive in our society. The shift from inequity to equity is a continuous ongoing antiracist journey that moves from awareness, to accountability, to advocacy and action. That journey is intersectional. It embraces all the ways we identify ourselves and each other – race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability and other social locations. We use this model of the journey to help us collaboratively work with clients to address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The journey includes the 8Ps of Change – People, Perception, Philosophy, Politics, Policy, Procedures, Process, and Priorities.
The Inside-Out Theorem
Equity work must have a strong foundation within the organization to authentically develop and deliver programs and services crafted to improve access and outcomes outside of the organization – especially for those disproportionately disadvantage based on all the ways we identify ourselves and each other by race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability and other social locations. When you start inside, it is a win-win-win situation for the:
- People who receive services
- People who provide the services (team and process partners)
- Organization to achieve its mission
